3. How Should I Select My Courses During Course Registration? How Can I Keep Track of the Courses I Have Taken and Those I Am Required to Take? May I Enrol in Courses from Higher Years? What Is the Maximum Credit Load I Can Take?
- During the course registration period, students are required to determine the courses they intend to take electronically after paying the applicable tuition fee or student contribution fee, where applicable. Course registration becomes final only after approval by the student's Academic Adviser.
- During each registration period, students must enrol in all first-year courses offered. In subsequent semesters or academic years, priority must be given to courses that have previously been failed or that should have been taken but were not completed, in accordance with the programme sequence.
- Students who have failed courses that have subsequently been removed from the curriculum shall take replacement courses approved by the relevant Academic Board. Where no replacement course is designated, students shall not be held responsible for the discontinued course; however, they must complete an alternative course to fulfil the minimum ECTS credit requirement for graduation.
- Depending on the structure of their academic programme, students may replace a failed elective course with another elective course. Attendance is compulsory for any newly selected elective course.
- To be eligible for graduation, students must successfully complete all compulsory courses and the required elective courses within their academic programme, obtain the minimum number of ECTS credits prescribed by the relevant regulations, and achieve a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00.
- Subject to the approval of the relevant Academic Board, students may take courses offered by other academic units within the University or by other higher education institutions in Türkiye or abroad.
- Students may neither attend nor sit examinations for courses in which they have not enrolled properly and within the prescribed registration period. Any examination taken for an unregistered course shall be deemed invalid.
- With the approval of their Academic Adviser, students may enrol in a maximum of 45 ECTS credits per semester or 90 ECTS credits per academic year in programmes operating on an annual basis.
- Students enrolled in double major or minor programmes may, with the approval of their Academic Adviser, register for a maximum of 60 ECTS credits per semester, including the courses taken within their major programme.
- During each Summer School period, students may enrol in courses worth a maximum of 20 ECTS credits. Students enrolled in double major or minor programmes may take up to 30 ECTS credits, including the courses taken within their major programme.
- First-year students are not permitted to enrol in courses offered in higher semesters. However, first-year students who have been granted course transfer or course exemption may enrol in higher-semester courses up to the total number of ECTS credits from which they have been exempted.
- Students who successfully complete courses from higher semesters may graduate earlier than the standard duration of study, provided that they satisfy all graduation requirements of their academic programme.
- Students whose cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) falls below 2.00 at the end of a semester or academic year shall receive an Academic Deficiency Warning. This warning will be withdrawn if the student raises their GPA to 2.00 or above by the end of the Summer School or the following semester or academic year. However, students who fail to achieve a GPA of 2.00 within this period must repeat all conditionally passed courses for which they received grades of CD, DC, or DD, beginning from the semester or academic year in which the warning was issued. This requirement remains in effect until the student attains a GPA of 2.00 or above. Students who have received an Academic Deficiency Warning may also replace conditionally passed elective courses (graded CD, DC, or DD) with alternative elective courses.
