The discipline of Public Finance has a deep-rooted tradition in Turkey, with historical foundations dating back to 1913. Most recently, with the restructuring of universities in 1982, Public Finance was established as a separate department under the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS). Since then, Public Finance departments have continued their educational activities through undergraduate and graduate programs.

In this context, the aim of the program is to equip students graduating from the Public Finance department—whose primary area of interest is public economics and the financing of the public sector—with both universal and local financial knowledge. The program also aims to provide them with the necessary professional competencies to succeed in both practical and professional life. Additionally, through this program, graduates will acquire analytical thinking skills in financial, economic, and political matters, along with the ability to interpret these issues, ultimately contributing to Turkey’s labor market by producing highly qualified professionals. Another objective is to provide regional youth—who may face financial barriers to accessing undergraduate education—with the opportunity to engage in a modern and globally competitive university environment through the Public Finance program.

The discipline of Public Finance is an interdisciplinary field that maintains strong interactions with economics, law, philosophy, history, psychology, sociology, and political science. From a normative perspective, Public Finance examines the relationship between economic efficiency and income distribution justice. In this regard, it analyzes taxation and the broader impact of the public sector on the economy, particularly in addressing economic challenges in Turkey.

For this reason, the Public Finance undergraduate program provides courses that offer prospective middle- and senior-level managers in the public sector an advantage by equipping them with in-depth knowledge in finance, economics, and politics. Furthermore, the program enhances students' ability to comprehend, interpret, and evaluate various written and verbal texts, which they may encounter in both daily and professional settings.

Moreover, the Public Finance program combines theory and practice, ensuring that it remains closely connected to society and daily life. The courses offered within the program encompass a broad perspective, ranging from law to economics. The curriculum is designed with a functional and innovative approach to help students internalize financial and economic concepts more effectively.

Within this framework, the program aims to train students who are well-equipped with universal knowledge, sensitive to national and local financial, administrative, and economic issues, capable of developing original solutions, and committed to public and professional ethics.

The vision of the program is to become one of the most preferred Public Finance departments in Turkey and to establish a respected institutional identity in its region as a leading center for financial knowledge and thought production.
