The Elsevier database list, which includes scientists ranking in the top 2% among scientists worldwide in 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, was updated by Prof. Dr. John P. A. IOANNIDIS and his research team from Stanford University. Updated on October 4, 2023 in the Elsevier database by Stanford University, the "World's Most Influential Scientists" list in the top 2% was categorized into two groups: "Career-long impact" and "Single-year impact". When creating the list, fundamental and rigorous international criteria accepted as the most concrete outputs of academic performance were used, such as the number of qualified publications, journal impact factor where articles were published, "number of citations to their work, h-index, hm-index, number of patents, number of first-author and single-author articles, number of cited articles, and journal impact factor of citing articles". The list comprising 190 thousand scientists in the top 2% among scientists worldwide in 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields was published in the Elsevier database on October 19, 2021, by Prof. Dr. John P. A. IOANNIDIS and his research team from Stanford University. Published in the Elsevier database by Stanford University on October 19, 2021, and based on the citation year 2020, the "World's Most Influential Scientists" list in the top 2% was categorized into two groups: "Career-long impact" and "Single-year impact (2020 studies)". When creating the list, fundamental and rigorous international criteria accepted as the most concrete outputs of academic performance were used, such as the number of qualified publications, journal impact factor where articles were published, "number of citations to their work, h-index, hm-index, number of patents, number of first-author and single-author articles, number of cited articles, and journal impact factor of citing articles". The study led by scientists from Stanford University has published a list that comprises of top 2% scientists in various scientific fields. IT is published on 19 October 2021. The list was produced by Professor John P. A. Ioannidis from Stanford University and his research team. They provided a publicly available database of over 100,000 top-scientists that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator. Separate data are shown for career-long and single year impact. Metrics with and without self-citations and ratio of citations to citing papers are given. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. Field- and subfield-specific percentiles are also provided for all scientists who have published at least 5 papers. Career-long data are updated to end-of-2020. The selection is based on the top 100,000 by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above.

Year 2020

Led by Stanford University in the United States, a team of US and Dutch scientists evaluated the academic performance of 7 million scientists who have published at least 5 articles in their fields, calculated taking various scientific criteria into consideration. According to data obtained via "Scopus Abstract" and "Citation Database" between 1996 and 2019, scientists ranking in the top 2% in the world were determined, resulting in the "World Top %2 Scientists List". This list was published in the ScienceDirect journal PLOS Biology.
In the ranking created considering the "Career-long" work of scientists, 159,684 scientists were listed, while in the "Single-year impact" category examining only 2019 studies, 161,442 scientists in the top 2% were included.
614 academics from our country entered the list in the "Career-long" category, and 857 academics entered the "Single-year impact" category. Our Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Murat UZAM achieved the success of being included in the list for both "Career-long" and "Single-year impact" categories.

The Project Performance Award (PPA) application submitted by our Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Murat UZAM for his project supported by TÜBİTAK under project number 112M229 titled "Theoretical Studies on Developing New Methods for Petri Net-Based Deadlock Prevention in Flexible Manufacturing Systems" was reviewed at the meeting of the TÜBİTAK Engineering Research Support Group (MAG) Executive Board dated 01/10/2020 and numbered 171, and it was decided to grant the Project Performance Award to Prof. Dr. Murat UZAM.
