Department of Educational Sciences
The Department of Educational Sciences was established to train qualified teachers for primary and secondary education institutions and to educate specialists in the various fields of education. In line with this purpose, the Department delivers the professional teaching knowledge courses of the undergraduate teacher education programmes offered by the Faculty of Education. The Department also runs in-service training programmes that contribute to the professional development of teachers and supports individual development through courses, seminars, and other lifelong-learning activities that benefit the wider community. In addition, the graduate programmes affiliated with its divisions are carried out within the Department, educating specialists who produce scientific solutions to the fundamental problems of education.
The Department currently comprises four active divisions:
- Division of Guidance and Psychological Counselling
- Division of Curriculum and Instruction
- Division of Educational Administration
- Division of Measurement and Evaluation in Education
Undergraduate education is offered only in the Division of Guidance and Psychological Counselling, which trains school counsellors. The Divisions of Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, and Measurement and Evaluation in Education discontinued undergraduate education as of the 1998–1999 academic year and have since offered graduate programmes only.

- Guidance and Psychological Counselling: Master’s with Thesis
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete the undergraduate programme in Guidance and Psychological Counselling are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance and Psychological Counselling and qualify as school counsellors. Students who complete the graduate programmes offered by the Department are awarded a Master’s or Doctoral degree in the relevant field.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the undergraduate programme in Guidance and Psychological Counselling work as school counsellors in state and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, in guidance and research centres, and in special education centres; in the human resources units of public and private organisations; in the family and juvenile courts affiliated with the Ministry of Justice; in the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Health; in the psychological counselling and guidance centres of universities; and in the relevant units of the Turkish Armed Forces and the General Directorate of Security. Graduates of the Department’s graduate programmes may pursue an academic career in higher education institutions or work as specialists in educational administration, supervision, planning, curriculum development, and measurement and evaluation.
Graduation Requirements
Undergraduate students are eligible for graduation upon successfully completing all theoretical and practical courses in the programme in accordance with the relevant regulations and achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00. Students graduate after completing a total of 240 ECTS credits over eight semesters. Detailed course contents are available in the Student Affairs section of the Department’s website.
