The Department of Mechanical Engineering, one of the fundamental departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Yozgat Bozok University, was established in 1992 (under Law No. 3837, enacted on 3 July 1992) within Erciyes University under the name “Department of Mechanical Engineering, Yozgat Faculty of Engineering and Architecture” and began its educational activities in 1994. Since 2006, it has continued its educational activities as the “Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Yozgat Bozok University.”
As one of the long-established departments of our university, the Department of Mechanical Engineering continues its activities with a total of 19 academic staff members, comprising 5 professors, 4 associate professors, 9 assistant professors, and 1 research assistants. The department moved to the newly constructed Faculty of Engineering and Architecture building in the spring semester of the 2015–2016 academic year. The building, which has an indoor area of 55,000 m², includes 44 academic staff offices allocated to our department, 4 classrooms with a capacity of 48 students each, 4 classrooms with a capacity of 42 students each, 4 classrooms with a capacity of 84 students each, 1 lounge, and 2 meeting rooms. To graduate from the regular undergraduate programme, students must successfully complete their courses as well as two compulsory internships: Manufacturing Methods and Heat and Construction Machinery.
In addition to courses in their own field, students are required to take Non-Field Elective Courses offered by other departments, enabling them to pursue other subjects in which they are interested. Alongside theoretical courses, the Mechanical Engineering Application Project and Graduation Project offered in the final year provide students with their first serious experience before entering professional life. Under the supervision of their preferred academic advisors, students complete projects by applying the knowledge they have acquired and conducting the necessary research. Similarly, through the Mechanical Engineering Systems Laboratory course, students apply their theoretical knowledge in the manufacturing and CAD/CAM workshops and in the mechatronics, hydraulic-pneumatic systems, materials testing, internal combustion engines, thermodynamics, mechanics, and simulation laboratories.
Our department also offers master’s and doctoral programmes, in which advanced theoretical and applied academic research is conducted while academic staff are also trained.
Our department aims to provide undergraduate and postgraduate education at national and international standards and to educate broad-minded mechanical engineers and academics capable of universal thinking. By combining up-to-date scientific and technological studies, our graduates are equipped with the knowledge and experience required to undertake technical, administrative, and research and development activities in industry. They are expected to be entrepreneurial, team-oriented, solution-focused, innovative and inquisitive; to possess analytical and synthesis skills; to be open to technological developments; to be sensitive to environmental and cultural values; to contribute to their country and humanity; and to conduct scientific research and develop technologies aimed at improving society’s quality of life.

It is also our mission to contribute to Türkiye’s technological and scientific advancement by offering research- and practice-oriented master’s programmes and researcher-oriented doctoral programmes in various fields of mechanical engineering; to present the results of our scientific studies in areas needed by industry and society for the benefit of industry through national and international publications; and to become a nationally and internationally recognised, leading institution of education and training in its field.
