History

The Sociology Department graduate program within the Postgraduate Education Institute, which was established under the Yozgat Bozok University, was established in 2021 with the aim of conducting high-level scientific research, producing scientific knowledge, disseminating science data, and supporting national and regional development and development.

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to apply for the Sociology Master's Program with Thesis; To graduate from one of the undergraduate programs specified in the "Special Conditions and Explanations" section determined by the Department of Sociology. To have taken the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Examination (ALES) held in the last three years and to have received at least 55 points from the "Verbal" or "Equal Weight" score type in this exam. To have participated in the graduate program exam to be opened by the Department of Sociology. The success grade will be calculated by considering 50% of the ALES score, 20% of the undergraduate graduation grade and 30% of the Social Sciences Institute Sociology Department written exam score. The success score calculated in this way must be at least 65. The registration procedures of the students who are successful in the exam are made by the Institute, taking into account the characteristics of the graduate program.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

It is necessary to graduate from one of the domestic undergraduate programs specified in the "Special Conditions and Explanations" section determined by the Department of Sociology, or from one of the foreign undergraduate programs whose equivalence is accepted by YÖK.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order for every student to register for classes at the beginning of the semester and to take the final exam, at least 70% of the courses must be continued. Students are required to take at least one midterm and a final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam is 40% and the contribution of the semester exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. There is a requirement to take at least 45 points from the final exam. . Students who take one of the letter grades AA, BA, BB and CB are deemed to have completed that course.

Profile of The Programme

Department of Sociology Master's program provides the competence to define, explain and compare social phenomena within the framework of the basic principles of sociology. By preparing the ground for counseling at various levels on social developments, it provides the student's self-development aspects, opportunities and abilities. Sociology master's program with thesis at least seven courses, not less than 60 ECTS credits, consists of a seminar course, thesis work and specialization courses. Seminar course, dissertation and specialization The courses are non-credit and evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The master's program with thesis is an education-training program. At least eight courses, thesis and specialization, including the seminar course, provided that the semester is not less than 60 ECTS credits It consists of at least 120 ECTS credits, including field courses. The first year of the education process is devoted to theoretical courses, and the second year is devoted to writing a thesis. Students who are successful in the course period can move on to the thesis period. Master's education with thesis is completed with a successful thesis exam.

The Sociology Department aims to train graduates who will develop a solution-oriented approach to social problems by transferring advanced sociological knowledge after their undergraduate degree. Thus, they can find employment opportunities in public institutions with the title of "sociologist". They can work as a "Forensic Social Service Specialist" within the judicial system, as well as find the opportunity to work in the field of social rehabilitation such as love homes and retirement homes, the Ministry of Family and Social Policies and its affiliates, and the education sector. Apart from these, there are employment opportunities in research and development institutions, media consultancy companies, survey companies due to their versatile knowledge.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates who successfully complete their master's education are entitled to study in doctoral programs, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Graduation Requirements

The Master's Program of the Department of Sociology is a 2-year program consisting of 4 semesters worth 30 ECTS each. One ECTS represents a student's workload of 30 hours per semester. In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass all the courses available in the program (120 ECTS equivalent) and successfully complete the Master's thesis. Graduates who successfully complete the program by fulfilling all the requirements receive the "Master's Diploma in Sociology" degree.
