General Information

The Traditional Handicrafts Program, operating under the Department of Handicrafts, offers a two-year post-secondary education. Students are selected through the Student Selection and Placement Exam (ÖSYS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Approximately 30 students are placed into the program each year. The courses are divided into two categories: compulsory and elective. Every student is required to take the compulsory courses, whereas students can choose elective courses according to their own preferences.

In addition to coursework, every student must complete a practical internship covering at least 30 working days.

Objective

The objective of this program is to ensure that our students acquire proficiency in a foreign language and computer skills alongside qualified theoretical and practical professional knowledge, while also providing them with social skills that may be necessary for their future until their graduation.

Facilities Offered

Practical courses are conducted in the Traditional Handicrafts workshops. Foreign language, computer, and other courses are held within the Vocational School of Technical Sciences. Additionally, library, computer area, dining hall, and cafeteria services are available at our school.

The career prospects for graduates of this program can be summarized as follows:

  • Employment opportunities in carpet manufacturing companies,

Bachelor’s Degree Programs Suitable for Vertical Transfer

Graduates who successfully complete the Traditional Handicrafts Associate Degree Program of the Department of Handicrafts can continue their education in the following 4-year bachelor's degree programs, provided they obtain a sufficient score in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) held annually by ÖSYM:

  • Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts – Tile Art Major

  • Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts – Illumination (Tezhip) Art Major

  • Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts – Carpet Making Art Major

  • Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts – Calligraphy (Hat) Art Major

  • Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts – Bookbinding (Cilt) Art Major

  • Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Art and Design, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts

Additionally, by taking difference courses, graduates of this program can vertically transfer to the following distance learning (open education) bachelor's programs at Anadolu University:

  • Hospitality Management

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from the Traditional Handicrafts Program, students must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Successfully pass all courses in the curriculum corresponding to a total of 120 ECTS credits.

  • Have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

  • Complete a 30-working-day (2 ECTS credits) summer internship.

  • Each student must register for courses at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of theoretical lectures and at least 80% of practical applications to be eligible to take the final exam. Students are subject to at least one midterm exam and a final exam for each course. The midterm score (which may also include points from evaluation tools such as homework, lab exams, quizzes, etc.) contributes 40%, and the final exam contributes 60% to the overall passing grade. All exams are evaluated out of 100 points. To graduate, the student must complete a course load of 120 ECTS credits and achieve a CGPA of at least 2.00.
