Division of Social Studies Education

About

The Faculty of Education at Yozgat Bozok University was established in 2008 and conducts its educational activities at the Erdoğan Akdağ Campus. The Social Studies Teaching Undergraduate Program began accepting its first students in the 2016-2017 academic year. Our Division offers formal education. Most of our graduates are employed as teachers in primary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, private schools, and tutoring centers. Our department's Social Studies Education Master's Program (with thesis) is conducted in collaboration with the Graduate Education Institute.

The Division of Social Studies Education aims to train teachers who are proficient in their field, critical thinkers, creative, possess problem-solving skills, utilize information technologies, and have a high level of pedagogical understanding. In this context, we strive to provide prospective teachers with an interdisciplinary perspective by utilizing the knowledge offered by the social sciences.

The mission of the Division of Social Studies Education is to provide the necessary infrastructure for the education and teaching of Social Studies, to closely monitor all innovations in the field, to follow domestic and international publications, to utilize technology, to conduct research on the disciplines under the umbrella of Social Studies, to investigate how the achievements of these disciplines can be more effectively delivered within the Social Studies curriculum, and to train Social Studies teachers who are highly knowledgeable in methods and techniques related to Social Studies teaching, who are inquisitive, research-oriented, and possess strong communication skills, and who are responsible and able to transfer these skills to their students, and who are committed to the general aims of Turkish National Education and Atatürk's principles.

The vision of the Division of Social Studies Education Department is to provide high-quality education in Social Studies education and teaching, to train scientifically minded, innovative, and information technology-using Social Studies teachers and academics to meet the needs of the country, and to bring new methods and techniques to Türkiye by following global developments in Social Studies education and teaching. Our goals include playing a leading role in projects related to Social Studies education, Citizenship education, and Human Rights, and collaborating and communicating with domestic and international organizations and institutions that can contribute to the professional development of prospective Social Studies teachers.
