Our School's History
Our Vocational School is a higher education institution established to train qualified personnel, offering associate's degrees. In accordance with Higher Education Law No. 2547, our two-year academic programs prepare our students for the professional world by providing them with professional knowledge and skills. Graduates from technical departments earn the title "Technician," while those from social science departments earn the title "Professional Member," becoming well-equipped individuals in their fields.
Yozgat Vocational School, opened in 1976 under the auspices of YAY-KUR (Turkish Employment Agency), established under the Ministry of National Education, began its education in the Special Administration Building. At that time, as with other institutions of higher education, it accepted students through pre-registration. In later years, it also accepted students transferred from closed vocational schools, continuing education until the end of 1978. Closed and discontinued in the 1979-1980 academic year, it reopened as a "Vocational School" in the 1981-1982 academic year, accepting students back into the first year.
In 1981-1982, the Business Administration, Accounting, and Mechanical Engineering Departments were opened under the Ministry of National Education's General Directorate of Non-Formal Higher Education, enrolling a total of 90 students. During these years, our school, with one permanent faculty member, two civil servants, and three staff members, operated temporarily on the third floor of the Trade High School. On July 22, 1982, our school was incorporated into the university by Decree Law No. 41 and affiliated with Kayseri Erciyes University. Since then, it has moved to the second block of the Teacher Training Center building and has undergone continuous development.
Our school graduated its first students in the 1982-1983 academic year. In early 1984, construction began on land on the Yozgat outskirts, and in 1987, it continued its education in its current prefabricated buildings in the Esentepe area of the Bahçeşehir neighborhood. With the Agricultural Implements and Machinery program beginning in the 1987-1988 academic year, our school continued to grow and develop.
In 1991, Gazi Vocational School, located in central Yozgat and affiliated with Gazi University, was closed, and the electrical and carpet weaving programs were transferred to Yozgat Vocational School, bringing the total number of programs to six. The same year, the Construction program was launched, increasing the number of programs from six to seven, continuing its continuous growth. As the increasing number of programs and the resulting student numbers within the Vocational School became too large to accommodate the existing prefabricated buildings, the current third building was constructed in 1993, further enhancing educational objectives.
As part of the METEB (Vocational and Technical Education Zone) project, Yozgat Vocational School offered the following programs under the Technical Programs Department in the 2002-2003 academic year:
- Furniture and Decoration (Evening Program)
- Mechanical and Drawing Construction (Evening Program)
- Electrical Program (Evening Program)
- Industrial Electronics (Evening Program)
- Computer Programming (Evening Program)
The following year, regular programs were offered for these programs, and student enrollment for evening programs, except for Computer Programming, was discontinued. In 2003, the total number of programs increased to 13. Our school, which was affiliated with Erciyes University by Decree Law No. 20, July 20, 1982, was transferred 24 years later to Bozok University, which was established by Law No. 4567, on March 1, 2006. Student admissions began in the 2009-2010 academic year, with programs in Traditional Handicrafts, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology, Marketing, Office Management and Executive Assistant, and Seed Cultivation, bringing the number of programs at the vocational school to 18. Our school has become a prominent institution among vocational schools, consistently making a name for itself.
The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) issued a letter dated April 27, 2009, numbered 012232, regarding the names of departments and programs at vocational schools. This was reviewed at the Executive Board Meeting on April 15, 2009. With this decision, in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 and 43/b of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, the department and program names at our Vocational School were changed as follows, effective from the 2009-2010 academic year.
As of 2009-2010, the number of departments at the Vocational School increased from 12 to 18. The new department and program names are as shown in the table. In accordance with Bozok University's Senate Decision No. 10 dated October 1, 2015, and the letter No. 62816 issued by the Council of Higher Education dated November 17, 2015, the following changes were made: Vocational School has been closed. It has been reorganized as Technical Sciences Vocational School and Social Sciences Vocational School in accordance with the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 08.02.2021 and numbered 8563. Since that date, the following departments and programs have been developed rapidly and continuously in the light of technology without compromising the quality of education, and have reached their current state.
