ANNOUNCEMENT: EXEMPTION EXAMINATION FOR BASIC FOREIGN LANGUAGE (ENGLISH I, ENGLISH II)

An exemption examination for the Basic English courses (English I and English II) will be held for undergraduate and associate degree students who enrolled at our University in the 2026–2027 Academic Year, as well as for students who enrolled in the previous academic year but had frozen their registration before the exemption examination.

To avoid any problems during the examination process, students are strongly advised to carefully read the following information before submitting their application.

  1. The Basic English Exemption Examination will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 16:00 in the examination rooms to be designated within the buildings of the Faculty/School/Vocational School where the students are registered.
  2. The examination will be conducted face-to-face with online proctoring.
  3. Students who wish to take the examination must apply using the application link provided at the end of this announcement. The deadline for applications is Friday, September 18, 2026, at 23:00.
  4. Students who have enrolled at the University for the first time in the 2026–2027 Academic Year but whose curricula do not include English I and English II in the current academic year, and who will take these courses in subsequent semesters, must also apply for the exemption examination this year.
    Students enrolled in the Preparatory Class of the Faculty of Theology and first-year students of Vocational Schools who have enrolled this year must apply for the exemption examination this year.
  5. The examination rooms of students who complete the application will be announced by the respective academic unit in which they are registered. Students are required to bring a valid identification document with them, as it may be checked before and/or during the examination.
  6. The examination consists of 25 questions.
  7. The examination duration is 30 minutes, starting from the moment the student begins the examination.
  8. As there will be no make-up examination under any circumstances, students are responsible for taking the necessary precautions to ensure that they can participate in the examination without any problems. The responsibility for attending the examination rests with the students.
  9. Students who obtain a score of 50 or above at the end of the examination will be exempted from English I and English II. The students' letter grades will be determined based on the scores they receive in the exemption examination.
  10. Students who do not meet the eligibility requirements stated at the beginning of this announcement and whose enrollment year is prior to the 2026–2027 Academic Year are not eligible to benefit from this examination under any circumstances. If it is determined that a student does not meet the application requirements, their examination will be deemed invalid even if they have taken the examination.

Students who have obtained a score of at least 50 in the Foreign Language Proficiency Examination (YDS) or YÖKDİL, administered by the ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center), or an equivalent score in an examination listed in the current equivalency document published by ÖSYM, shall be exempted from the common compulsory foreign language courses by the academic unit in which they are registered. Such exemption grades are not included in the calculation of the Grade Point Average (GPA).

Students who have previously successfully completed the common compulsory foreign language courses at another higher education institution, or who have attended a foreign language preparatory program and successfully completed it at a minimum CEFR A2 level, shall also be exempted from the common compulsory foreign language courses by the academic unit in which they are registered.
