Department of Art History – Undergraduate Program

The Department of Art History, located within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Yozgat Bozok University, was established in 2009. The Undergraduate Program was opened in the 2018-2019 Academic Year.

The Art History Undergraduate Program basically enables students to gain critical awareness of the cultural environment they live in. Students gain the ability to classify and define works of art according to cultures, geographies, periods, materials and techniques, stylistic and iconographic features. The technical and scientific objectives of the Art History Undergraduate Program include students learning research methods effectively, using information correctly, gaining compilation and transfer skills, and learning to combine theory with practice. Within the scope of the mission of the Art History Department, students are provided with the opportunity to get to know material cultural assets. In this context, it is expected that they will reach a level of consciousness that will be able to produce ideas on the registration and protection of cultural assets in their future professional business life. Since it is a -multidisciplinary- field closely related to fields such as archaeology, architecture, museology, history, literature, folklore, etc., the courses opened in the Art History Undergraduate Program include; Among the important outcomes of our program is that students of the Art History Department learn how to technically draw architectural drawings, draw archaeological finds, evaluate ethnographic artifacts and make inventory.

Our students enrolled in the undergraduate program have the opportunity to participate in archaeological excavations conducted by our Department and other Universities every year.
