Department of Mathematics and Science Education

The Department of Mathematics and Science Education comprises two divisions: the Division of Mathematics Education and the Division of Science Education. The Department currently has ten faculty members and one research assistant. Both divisions offer four-year undergraduate programmes that train mathematics and science teachers for lower secondary education (grades 5–8).

The undergraduate programme in Mathematics Education has admitted students since the 2015–2016 academic year and currently has approximately 200 enrolled students. The undergraduate programme in Science Education has admitted students since the 2013–2014 academic year and currently has approximately 50 enrolled students.

Qualification Awarded

Students who successfully complete the programmes are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics Teaching or in Science Teaching and qualify as mathematics or science teachers at lower secondary level.

Career Opportunities

Graduates may work as mathematics or science teachers in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education or in private educational institutions. They may also pursue master’s and doctoral studies and develop an academic career in higher education institutions.

Graduation Requirements

Students are eligible for graduation upon successfully completing all theoretical and practical courses in the programme in accordance with the relevant regulations and achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00. Students graduate after completing a total of 240 ECTS credits over eight semesters. Detailed course contents are available in the Student Affairs section of the Department’s website.
