Division of English Language Education
The Department of Foreign Language Education comprises the Division of English Language Education. The Division currently has five Assistant Professors. It offers an undergraduate programme in English Language Teaching, which has admitted students since the 2018–2019 academic year. The medium of instruction is English. The programme lasts four years (eight semesters), excluding the compulsory English preparatory year. The student quota for the 2026–2027 academic year is 36. Mission
The mission of the English Language Teaching Programme is to educate English language teachers who are knowledgeable in the field of English language teaching, well equipped with contemporary language teaching approaches, methods, and techniques, committed to scientific inquiry and to the principles and reforms of Atatürk, forward-looking, proficient in English language skills, and highly aware of intercultural issues. To this end, the Programme aims to prepare prospective teachers who have a high level of English proficiency, are familiar with contemporary teaching methods, can keep abreast of current developments in the field, and think critically.
Vision
The vision of the English Language Teaching Programme is to educate teachers who can integrate subject knowledge, professional teaching knowledge, and general cultural knowledge; continuously develop themselves; effectively manage dynamic teaching and learning processes; possess both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in teaching English as a foreign language; and demonstrate research competence, multidimensional thinking, self-confidence, and strong self-efficacy. The Programme also aims to attain a distinguished position among English Language Teaching programmes in Türkiye.
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete the programme are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Teaching and qualify as English language teachers.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may work as English language teachers in public schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education or in private educational institutions. They may also pursue master’s and doctoral studies and develop an academic career in higher education institutions. In addition, they may seek employment in sectors requiring advanced English proficiency, such as translation and interpreting, tourism, and international trade.
Graduation Requirements
Students are eligible for graduation upon successfully completing all theoretical and practical courses in the English Language Teaching undergraduate programme in accordance with the relevant regulations and achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00. Students graduate after completing a total of 240 ECTS credits over eight semesters. Detailed course contents are available on the Department’s website.
