LABORATORY TECHNICIAN AND VETERINARY HEALTH PROGRAM

Establishment

This program is the third department opened at the Şefaatli Vocational School within Yozgat Bozok University. It began accepting students in the 2019-2020 academic year.

Program Objectives

Farm and pet health indirectly affects human health. Considering the importance given to both animal and human health, the number of qualified "veterinary health technicians" and "laboratory assistants" to assist veterinarians, animal biologists, and laboratory workers in the field is becoming increasingly important. The program aims to train highly knowledgeable and experienced technical personnel who can work in these areas.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of this program can find employment in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's provincial and district directorates, research institutes and laboratories, veterinary clinics, polyclinics and hospitals, farms, poultry, food production and marketing businesses, zoos, and the veterinary pharmaceutical industry.

Students who successfully complete all courses in their field are entitled to receive an "Associate Degree".

Admission and Registration Requirements

To be admitted to the program, it is necessary to pass the exam administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Students organize their program preferences according to their exam scores and send their preference forms to the Student Selection and Placement Center. ÖSYM receives all applications, groups them according to score type, ranks the scores from highest to lowest, lists all available programs according to the preferred score type, and places students in one of the programs they have chosen. Registration procedures are then carried out for students who are accepted into the program.

Measurement and Evaluation Principles

Course success grades are determined according to relative and absolute grading systems. The raw success grade is calculated by weighting the mid-term assignments and the end-of-term/year exams. In relative grading, the lower limit is 35 and the upper limit is 86; a minimum score of 50 is required on the final exam. Absolute grading is applied if the class average is 86 or higher. The absolute grading system also applies when the number of students is less than 16. Courses with special evaluations (internships, etc.) and common/elective courses are graded with absolute grading. The contribution rates for mid-term and final exams will be 50%-50%.

Graduation Requirements

Students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses (totaling 120 ECTS credits), have a general weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and complete a 20-day compulsory internship.

Transition to Undergraduate Programs

Students who successfully graduate from this program can transfer to Veterinary Medicine, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology, Animal Production, Agricultural Biotechnology, and Zootechnics undergraduate programs via the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
