2026-2027 Academic Year Curriculum Update and Adaptation (Equivalency) Principles

Dear Students,

The curriculum of our Department's Computer Engineering Bachelor's Program has been updated in line with the needs of alignment with the sector, and the new curriculum will be applied starting from the 2026-2027 academic year. Students currently enrolled in the program will be transitioned (adapted) to the new curriculum within the framework summarized below. The detailed, course-by-course Adaptation (Equivalency) Table related to this transition will be announced separately on the Department website.

1) Change in the Instruction Model: Transition from Fully Face-to-Face to Blended (Hybrid) and Online Instruction

Under the previous curriculum, all courses were delivered fully face-to-face. Under the new curriculum, some courses will be delivered Fully Online or Hybrid. The courses planned as online/hybrid are listed below (all other courses not listed here continue to be delivered Face-to-Face):

For individual courses within the Free Elective, Technical Elective, and Foreign Language Elective pools that are not listed above, the delivery mode is specified separately in the relevant course plan, depending on the course selected by the student.

2) AGEP (Student Academic Development Activity Program)

To help students begin their courses better prepared and to address gaps in foundational concepts at an early stage, AGEP (Student Academic Development Activity Program) will be implemented in courses determined according to class level. Under the program, students will carry out a project/application activity of at least 12 hours for: Computer Programming I and Mathematics I in Year 1; Web Programming and Logic Circuits in Year 2; Software Analysis and Design and Signals and Systems in Year 3; and Computer Engineering Design and Introduction to Pattern Recognition in Year 4. These activities are graded out of 100 points and contribute to the assessment with equal weight alongside the midterm exam grade. There is no course-selection option within AGEP; the activities are mandatory for the relevant class level.

3) The 7+1 Work-Based Learning (İME) Model and the Change in Internship Structure

The new curriculum is structured as the "7+1 Work-Based Learning (İME) Model." As part of this, the internship requirement has been significantly simplified:

  • Under the previous curriculum, students completed two separate internships in the hardware and software fields: Internship I (4th semester) and Internship II (7th semester), each 20 working days, for a total of 40 working days.
  • Under the new curriculum, these two internships have been merged into a single "Internship" course (5 ECTS) offered in the 7th semester. Students will now complete a single internship of 30 working days total, choosing either the hardware or the software field.
  • In addition, an "Work-Based Learning (İME)" option has been added to the Technical Elective pools in the 7th and 8th semesters for students who wish to take it.
Adaptation (equivalency) rule: Students who have passed both Internship I and Internship II are not responsible for the new Internship course; their existing grades and ECTS credits remain valid. Students who have completed only one of the two, or who have failed or never taken either, will be responsible for the new Internship course (30 working days, in either the hardware or software field).

4) Courses Removed as Part of Curriculum Simplification

Students subject to the adaptation process are responsible for these courses. Adaptation (equivalency) rule: For students who have already passed these courses, the former ECTS value on the transcript remains valid, with no additional obligation. Students who have not yet taken, or have failed, these courses are responsible for the new ECTS value; if the ECTS value has decreased, the resulting gap is made up with an elective course, and if the ECTS value has increased, no shortfall arises.

7) Special Case: Computer Organization Course

Computer Organization (BMH472, 4 ECTS), previously offered in the 7th semester, has been moved to the 8th semester under a new course code in the new curriculum. Students who have already successfully completed this course are not responsible for the new course. Students who have failed or never taken it will not be held responsible for the old course, and will make up the 4 ECTS shortfall with an elective course.

8) Removal of Course Prerequisites and Greater Flexibility in Course Load

Under the new curriculum, the prerequisite-course system previously applied in our Department has been eliminated entirely. In the previous curriculum, certain courses (e.g., Algorithm Analysis and Design, Graduation Project, Object-Oriented Programming, Electronic Circuits Laboratory, Differential Equations, among others) required the prior successful completion of specific courses as a "prerequisite." Under the new curriculum, no course has a prerequisite; students may take courses in their curriculum regardless of semester order, provided there is no scheduling conflict.

In addition, pursuant to Article 19, paragraph 8 of the Yozgat Bozok University Associate and Bachelor's Degree Education, Instruction, and Examination Regulation, students may take up to a maximum of 45 ECTS credits of coursework per semester with the approval of their academic advisor (this limit is 90 ECTS in the annual/yearly system). Provided that it fits the course schedule and advisor approval is obtained, students who wish to do so may take additional courses beyond the normal course load and complete their studies in a shorter period.

9) General Adaptation (Equivalency) Principles

All adaptation (equivalency) procedures will be evaluated on a per-student basis by the Department's Exemption and Adaptation Committee, within the framework of the relevant regulation provisions (Article 25). The detailed, course-by-course "Adaptation Table" showing all adaptation statuses will be announced separately on the Department website.

Students are strongly encouraged to carefully review the Adaptation Table to be shared on our website, and to contact their academic advisor or the Department's Exemption and Adaptation Committee with any questions specific to their own transcript status.
