The Department of Western Languages and Literatures, in the Faculty of Arts and Science of Yozgat Bozok University, encompasses the primary disciplines of English, Spanish, and German Language and Literature.

English is the language of education in the English Language and Literature department. A compulsory preparatory class programme is carried out for students with inadequate foreign language skills to facilitate their successful pursuit of undergraduate education. Students who successfully complete the preparatory exemption exam at the beginning of the academic year may begin their studies directly in the first grade.

The courses provided by our department provide undergraduate students with reading, writing, speaking, listening, and notably critical thinking abilities through the examination of literary texts.

A second foreign language is compulsory for fourth-year undergraduate students. They may select from the following languages: Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, or Greek. Consequently, the students in our department graduate with fluency and proficiency in English, while also acquiring a foundational understanding of an other language.

Our graduates are employed as English teachers at public and private schools  or instructors at universities after acquiring a teaching certificate from a faculty of education. Furthermore, our graduates possess the capability to engage with media organisations, the tourist and advertising industries, financial institutions, and governmental departments in both public and private sectors, endowed with superior English language proficiency and a comprehensive understanding of culture and literature. In addition to these extensive job opportunities, they may also work as authors, editors, and translators.
