General Information

The Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program is a two-year associate degree program offered under the Department of Veterinary. Students are admitted through the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Approximately 50 students are admitted to the program each year. The curriculum consists of compulsory and elective courses. All students are required to complete the compulsory courses, while elective courses can be selected according to their interests.

In addition to coursework, every student is required to complete a compulsory internship of at least 20 working days.


Program Objectives

The Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program aims to educate qualified Veterinary Laboratory Technicians who are competent in laboratory practices, animal nutrition and husbandry, livestock production, preventive vaccination, artificial insemination, and related veterinary services. Graduates are trained to perform food and pathological analyses in public and private laboratories affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, participate in the control of epidemic and parasitic diseases, and assist veterinarians during clinical examinations and surgical procedures.


Degree Awarded

Students who successfully complete the theoretical and practical requirements of the Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program are awarded an Associate Degree Diploma. Graduates are qualified to work as Veterinary Laboratory Technicians.


Facilities

The program provides practical training through laboratories located within the vocational school and through applications involving companion animals maintained by the school. Field studies are carried out at livestock enterprises located in Boğazlıyan and the surrounding areas. In addition, the vocational school offers foreign language and computer laboratories, as well as library, cafeteria, and canteen services to support students' academic and social development.

Graduates who obtain a sufficient score in the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) conducted annually by ÖSYM may continue their education in the following bachelor's degree programs:

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from the Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program, students must:

• Successfully complete all courses totaling 120 ECTS credits.

• Achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00.

• Successfully complete a compulsory 20-working-day internship (4 ECTS).

Students are required to register for courses at the beginning of each semester. To be eligible for the final examination, they must attend at least 70% of theoretical classes and 80% of practical sessions. Assessment consists of at least one midterm examination and one final examination for each course. The midterm examination contributes 40% and the final examination contributes 60% to the overall course grade. Additional assessment methods such as assignments, laboratory examinations, and quizzes may also be included in the midterm evaluation. All examinations are graded on a 100-point scale. To graduate, students must successfully complete 120 ECTS credits and achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.
