"Testing and Assessment in Online Learning Platforms" workshop by our University Application and Research Center of Distance Education started with the opening speech of CoHE Administrative Board Member Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan and Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Karadağ. The workshop organized online and participated by professionals from different universities in Turkey will continue all day.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Karadağ stated that as a university, they held an important workshop on testing and assessment, which has not been discussed enough yet, and that the subject will be discussed today and will make a serious contribution to the field of Distance Education. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Karadağ continued his words as follows:

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Karadağ: "We began to experience the firsts in the field of education as in every field in the world."

Yozgat Bozok University started Distance Education as of March 23 with the declaration of the President of CoHE. In this process, our university has adapted to the new system by checking the Distance Education infrastructure and providing the necessary support. In this process, we started to transform distance education, which is an existing platform, into a qualified one, with the feedback we received from both our students and our academic members.  In a short time, we tried to achieve a quality that would be similar to face-to-face education for our students. We tried to carry out the testing and assessment parameters together with our friends in this process. I can say that we have been partially successful in this regard.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Karadağ: "We, as a university, have made significant progress in the distance education process"

One of the most important issues raised by the pandemic process was the ability to somehow internalize distance education. While we were trying to make up our shortcomings at this point, on the other hand, we also completed our preparations on a 40% mixed education model as stated by the President of CoHE. While we can manage the processes of coeducation as a future of our university, which will be indispensable from now on, we organized a graduation ceremony in the digital environment, which was a great expectation of our students. This provided a serious satisfaction for our students. Especially, we organized a distance education summer school with the participation of approximately 2900 students in order to overcome the problems of our senior students in this process.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Karadağ: "We established the Bozok Learning Management System BOYSIS"

As of the point we have reached, we created the Bozok Learning Management System, which we call BOYSİS, where three different systems in distance education are brought together. We have implemented the Student Information System, Learning and Teaching Management System within a platform. We will continue our studies on this platform in the new academic year.

I think we, as a university, have successfully carried out this process. In this context, we took the necessary steps within the frame of the vision determined by the CoHE administration, especially the President of CoHE. This workshop has been prepared to contribute to this vision. I would like to thank Our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Güney, UZEM (Distance Education Center) officials, and all the valuable academic members who will contribute to the Workshop."

Later, CoHE Administrative Board Member Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan who made the opening speech, stated that not only universities, but also the world was unprepared for the pandemic period, but despite everything, our universities in Turkey have achieved considerable success in this process. Prof. Dr. Gündoğan continued his speech as follows:

CoHE Administrative Board Member Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan: "Our main goal in distance education is to ensure the sustainability of education."

“As CoHE, we have been checking the practices of world universities for six months. We have followed step by step what they have been doing. Indeed, universities in Turkey have adapted to the process very quickly. In two weeks in March, when the process started, all our universities adapted well to distance education and we successfully completed the process. I believe that after the pandemic period is over, the experiences we have gained in terms of distance education and the productiveness of learning technologies brought by distance education will contribute to our face-to-face education and campus education. During this period, we experienced many problems, especially in terms of infrastructure. Universities started to develop their own systems. This has been very satisfying. I believe that this will improve with the development of both the internet infrastructure and server infrastructure opportunities in the upcoming period.

I would like to thank Yozgat Bozok University for this workshop. The theme of the workshop is well presented. The subject of testing and assessment, which is the most basic subject of distance education, has been brought to attention. Previously, workshops were held in different universities, but general topics on Distance Education have been discussed in those workshops. However, Yozgat Bozok University has brought one of the most problematic issues of this process to the agenda for the first time. I find it very valuable that this issue has been brought up. I would like to thank those who contributed to this topic which will be discussed by professionals here. I hope the suggestions and speeches that our academic members will present in today's meeting will set light to us.

In the workshop, which will continue throughout the day, the information and experience in the Covid-19 pandemic period will be shared by addressing issues such as the sharing of the problems encountered in testing and assessment in online learning environments, the solutions, determination of future strategies in the testing and assessment process in online learning environments and accreditation in distance education.
