OUR INDEPENDENCE POET MEHMET AKİF ERSOY COMMEMORATED AT OUR UNIVERSITY WITH A SERIES OF EVENTS

Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who wrote the Turkish National Anthem, the symbol of the struggle for independence and presented it to this nation, was commemorated with a series of events organized at our university as part of the "20-27 December Mehmet Akif Ersoy Commemoration Week ".

At the event organized by our university, a program titled "The Life of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, His Works, and Place in the Literature of the War of Independence" was held in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem Sarıkaya participated as a speaker. Assoc. Prof. Dr Sarıkaya stated that "Mehmet Akif Ersoy, one of the spiritual leaders of the War of Independence behind the front lines, as a person of great ideas, actions and art that has an indelible place in the hearts of our nation with both his life and his works."

Another event organized during the week was an online seminar on "The Life of Mehmet Akif, Literary Personality and the Turkish National Anthem" given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Onur Hasdedeoğlu from Kastamonu University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasdedeoğlu stated that "Our National Poet, who trained himself in the best way in terms of science since his childhood and youth years, has always been shown as an example name to the next generations with his morality, honesty, trustworthy character and the love of the country and nation that cascades in, despite his death 84 years ago." Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasdedeoğlu shared with the audience the process that developed until the acceptance of the Turkish National Anthem and the developments regarding Mehmet Akif Ersoy's activities during the War of Independence.

In the last day of the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Commemoration Week, prayers and Yasin-i Şerif  were recited by Lect. Yasin Cenan and Lect. Talha Erdem for Mehmet Akif Ersoy and the souls of all our elders and martyrs at the Erdogan Akdag Mosque of our University. Subsequently, Sociologist-Author Dr. Osman Arslan gave an online seminar titled "The Voice of the People and Justice: Mehmet Akif Ersoy".

Making the opening speech of the online seminar, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Karadağ said: “As Yozgat Bozok University, we organized a series of activities on the 84th anniversary of Mehmet Akif Ersoy's death and tried to understand him and fulfill our loyalty debt to him. No matter how much we try to explain Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who is a true patriotic man of faith and struggle, it will not be enough. In the seminar to be held today, Dr. Osman Arslan will try to convey his different facades to us. I would like to thank him for his contributions”.

In his seminar Sociologist-Author Dr. Osman Arslan gave information about Mehmet Akif Ersoy's family, the neighborhood he was raised in, the morality on which his life was based, his scientific life and his contemplation. Dr. Arslan stated that Islamic values ​​and moral understanding determine Mehmet Akif's character as well as his culture, adding that Mehmet Akif is an important person with his honest personality, morality, Islamic sensitivity and devotion to national values.
